* CoreText: Modernize style hint fallback lookupTor Arne Vestbø2019-09-161-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The DefaultFontFallbacks.plist system file that we used for looking up style fallbacks does not exists in macOS 10.15, nor did it ever exists on iOS. Instead of relying on this file, we hard-code a set of default families, that we then look up the fallbacks for. The result of QFont::defaultFamily() on macOS is now: QFont::Helvetica --> "Helvetica" QFont::Times --> "Times New Roman" QFont::Courier --> "American Typewriter" QFont::OldEnglish --> "" QFont::System --> "Lucida Grande" QFont::AnyStyle --> "Lucida Grande" QFont::Cursive --> "Apple Chancery" QFont::Monospace --> "Menlo" QFont::Fantasy --> "Zapfino" And on iOS: QFont::Helvetica --> "Helvetica" QFont::Times --> "Times New Roman" QFont::Courier --> "American Typewriter" QFont::OldEnglish --> "" QFont::System --> "Helvetica" QFont::AnyStyle --> "Helvetica" QFont::Cursive --> "" QFont::Monospace --> "Menlo" QFont::Fantasy --> "Zapfino" Fixes: QTBUG-78240 Change-Id: Ie9bc13c9c1031d89f024199e4736a046c568a48d Reviewed-by: Simon Hausmann <simon.hausmann@qt.io>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There seems to be an issue in CoreText which may cause an existing font descriptor to give unreliable results if it refers to one of the system theme fonts. Since we do not know all function calls or events that may trigger this bug, the safe route is to always create fresh font descriptors when creating fonts for these descriptors. The impact on performance should be small, as Qt has its own internal caches. [ChangeLog][macOS/iOS][Text] Fixed an issue where text using one of the system theme fonts would under certain circumstances display random glyphs. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Getting the localized family name of a font involves quite a bit of work internally in CoreText, e.g. creating and sorting font descriptors. By deferring population of family aliases until a font match misses we shave off ~1 second of startup time for applications that use non- localized font families (most applications). | * macOS: Don't marshal app font data via URL when using FreeType font engineTor Arne Vestbø2017-04-111-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Font descriptors can have attached attributes of any kind, not just pre- defined constants like kCTFontURLAttribute. We take advantage of this and attach the font data that was passed into addApplicationFont() to the font descriptor, so we can read it out directly when later creating an engine for it. This removes the need to build up a URL to represent the font data, which also didn't work for the memory-font use-case. The FreeType font engine now passes the same tst_QFontDatabase tests on macOS as the native CoreText font engine. This also fixes the leak caused by CTFontCreateWithGraphicsFont never releasing the graphics font, resulting in releaseFontData never being called: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/40805382/ We're now cleaning up the font data in releaseHandle, based on the attribute set on the font descriptor. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Instead of registering the font via CTFontManagerRegister we just create a font descriptor for the data/URL and populate that like normal system fonts. This makes the code more similar to how we deal with other fonts, shaves off a ms during font registration due to not registering the font, and fixes an issue on iOS where CTFontManagerRegister would invalidate earlier populated system font descriptors. * UIKit: Improve handling of private system fonts / fallback fontsTor Arne Vestbø2016-12-081-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 2bc7a40048 taught the CoreText font database to populate the families lazily, and in the process added a guard to ensure that we didn't populate internal fonts (prefixed with a '.'), as these fonts would then show up in font selection dialogs. Commit 909d3f5c7 then added support for private fonts, by making it possible to filter out any private fonts from font selection daialogs. But the guard was not removed, so we were still not populating these fonts. This guard has been removed, and the filtering function has been updated to include the conditions of the guard. Next, commit e5e93345c5 used [UIFont fontNamesForFamilyName:] to verify that each family that we registered with the font database would also have matching fonts when finally populated. This is not the right approach, as [UIFont fontNamesForFamilyName:] does not handle internal fonts. Instead we trust what CTFontDescriptorCreateMatchingFontDescriptors() gives us, but make sure to register the resulting font descriptors with the original/originating font family, instead of the one we pull out of the font descriptor. Finally, as of iOS 10, we can use CTFontManagerCopyAvailableFontFamilyNames instead of [UIFont familyNames], which gives us all of the internal font families like on macOS, instead of just the user-visible families. For earlier iOS versions we manually add '.PhoneFallback', as we know it will be available even if not listed in [UIFont familyNames]. The end result is that we register and populate families like '.PhoneFallback', which is critical to supporting more esoteric writing systems. The check in tst_QFont that styles for a given family is not empty has been removed, as we can't guarantee that on all platforms, which is also documented for QFontDatabase::styles(). Also added QT_PLATFORM_UIKIT define (undocumented). qmake config defines tvos (but not ios). tvOS is 64bits only (QT_ARCH is arm64) and requires bitcode to be embedded in the binary. A new ‘bitcode’ configuration was added. For ReleaseDevice builds (which get archived and push to the store), bitcode is actually embedded (-fembed-bitcode passed to clang). For all other configurations, only using bitcode markers to keep file size down (-fembed-bitcode-marker). Build disables Widgets in qtbase, and qtscript (unsupported, would require fixes to JavaScriptCore source code). Qpa same as on iOS but disables device orientation, status bar, clipboard, menus, dialogs which are not supported on tvOS. * Font Database: Add support for private, system UI font familiesGabriel de Dietrich2014-08-111-0/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We introduce QPlatformFontDatabase::isPrivateFontFamily() to allow testing for private, system UI font families. Both QFontComboBox and QFontDialog need to filter out those private font families which, by definition, should be hidden from the end user. (The textedit example had to be updated to fix the issue where the default font would be private. In 5.4, we will be adding an equivalent, public API in QFontDatabase, and a better solution for the textedit example and QTexEdit in general). In particular, on OS X and iOS, private fonts are used for the system UI font. Those have their font family name prefixed by a dot. QCoreTextFontDatabase knows about this, and makes sure those are tested positive as private font families. In order to have a cleaner layer separation, we moved the QPA theme font resolution from the platform theme classes into QCoreTextFontDatabase for both Cocoa and iOS QPA plugins. In both cases, we use CoreText's CTFontCreateUIFontForLanguage(), that nicely maps to the HITheme API we were using so far on Mac. That means one HITheme dependency less. We also cache the font descriptors we get for these font for each time QCTFD::populateFamilies() gets called. (While not common, this currently happens in auto-tests, like tst_QFontDatabase, and could happen in actual applications -- specially when adding and removing application fonts.) * Teach font database to populate families lazilyTor Arne Vestbø2014-03-201-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Instead of requiring that QPlatformFontDatabase::populateFontDatabase() populates every single font in the system by calling registerFont(), we now allow the platform database to call registerFontFamily() instead, and then keep track of which families we've yet to fully populate in the font database. Once a property of a family is requested (such as its writing system, style, etc), the family is lazily populated by calling back to the platform database through QPlatformFontDatabase::populateFamily(), which in turn does the final call to registerFont() as before. This cuts application startup on OS X and iOS (of which the font population used to be a major limiting factor) from roughly one second to about 350ms. * Remove need to populate font database on OS X to get fallback familiesTor Arne Vestbø2014-03-111-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Populating the whole database takes a while, and it's very easy to trigger the fallback family code path through eg. matching or getting the default font family from QFont. Instead of relying on populate to resolve family name to a PostScript name (which was required when using CTFontCreateWithName), we instead use the CTFontDescriptorCreateWithAttributes() function to create a descriptor based on the family name, and then use CTFontCreateWithFontDescriptor(). The other way around, we use CTFontDescriptorCreateWithNameAndSize, and then pull out the family name from the descriptor. The need for creating a CTFont for private fonts (eg '.Apple Symbols Fallback') does not seem necessary anymore, as tested on 10.7-10.9. The disadvantage of creating font descriptors instead of re-using the data computed by population is that we're doing the same work twice, but the end result is making the font database more lazy, and the 80% use-case is assumed to be that you're only interested in the fallback of a small number of fonts, which means you don't want to populate all of the fonts in the system (taking about 1100ms on the test system). Looking up the fallback of a single family or style now takes about 15-25ms. * Prevent repeated and unnecessary font population QCoreTextFontDatabaseTor Arne Vestbø2014-03-051-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The platform font database is populated from QFontDatabase, through the static initializeDb() function, whenever the font database determines that the platform database has not been initialized (by checking if the font database is empty). There are other clients of QPlatformFontDatabase though, such as QFont, which uses the platform font database to check for the default family. The CoreText implementation of determining the default family relies on data that is computed during font population, and hence does an internal (self-triggered) populate. To prevent repeated populates as a result of calling QFont::defaultFamily() we guard the populate by a similar isEmpty() check as QFontDatabase does, but to ensure that this check works in the case of an invalidated font database, we need to propagate the font database invalidation down to the platform font database. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch fixes two issues that prevented the application font related tests of tst_QFontDatabase from passing: * The code for creating the font descriptor after the registration of an app font with file name using CTFontDescriptorCreateWithAttributes must create a dictionary with kCTFontURLAttribute as key and the CFURLRef pointing to the on-disk file as value. Unfortunately the code mixed up keys and values in the dictionary. * Registration of app fonts within QFontDatabase itself on Windows and Fontconfig platforms works by QFontDatabase calling addApplicationFont on the platform db after calling populateFontDatabase(). It assumes that addApplicationFont on the platform db is capable of registering the font right away. This part was also missing from the Mac implementation and this patch implements it by moving the common registration code from a CTFontDescriptorRef out into a separate method, called from populateFontDatabase() as well as addApplicationFont(). | | | | | | | | | | | On Mac OS 10.8 and iOS 6.0 we can use CTFontCopyDefaultCascadeListForLanguages to get the list of fallback fonts, which is preferable to reading the plist file from the filesystem. The latter doesn't work (is not allowed) on iOS in any case, so for iOS < 6.0 we use a static list of fallback fonts. * Expose QPA API under qpa/*Girish Ramakrishnan2012-05-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The main reasons for doing this are: 1. _qpa.h end up in the master QtGui include file. QtGui is meant for userland applications. qpa code is neither binary nor source compatible. Inadvertant use of QPA api makes the user code binary-incompatible. 2. syncqt creates forwarding headers for non-private header files. This gives people the impression that this is public API. As discussed on the mailing list, even though QPA api is internal and subject to change, it needs to treated differently from private headers since they will be used by in-qtbase and out-of-qtbase plugins. This commit does the following: 1. The _qpa in QPA header files is dropped. 2. syncqt now treats any file with qplatform prefix as a special file and moves it to qpa/ directory. The recommended way of using QPA API in plugins is: #include <qpa/qplatformfoo.h>. This allows the user include QPA API from multiple modules (for example, qplatformfoo might be in QtPrintSupport) 3. The user needs to explicitly add QT += <module>-private to get access to the qpa api. 4. Creates compat headers for the olden style qplatformfoo_qpa.h and QPlatformFoo includes. This commit does not change the cpp filenames. This requires a more careful merging of existing non qpa cpp files and existing cpp files on a case by case basis. This can be done at anytime. The following files are not renamed as part of this changed but will be fixed as part of a future change: src/gui/kernel/qgenericpluginfactory_qpa.h src/gui/kernel/qgenericplugin_qpa.h src/gui/kernel/qwindowsysteminterface_qpa.h files were renamed using for x in `find . -name "qplatform*_qpa.h"`; do git mv $x "${x/_qpa.h/.h}"; done for x in `find . -name "qplatform*_qpa_p.h"`; do git mv $x "${x/_qpa_p.h/_p.h}"; done includes were renamed using script for file in `find . -name "*.h" -or -name "*.cpp" -or -name "*.mm"`; do sed -i -e 's,.*#.*include.*<\(Qt.*/\)\?\(QPlatform.*\)>,#include <qpa/\L\2.h>,g' \ -e 's,.*#.*include.*"\(Qt.*/\)\?\(QPlatform.*\)",#include <qpa/\L\2.h>,g' \ -e 's,.*#.*include.* "\(qplatform.*\)_qpa.h",#include <qpa/\L\1.h>,g' \ -e 's,.*#.*include.*"\(qplatform.*\)_qpa_p.h",#include <qpa/\L\1_p.h>,g' \ -e 's,.*#.*include.*<\(Qt.*/\|Qt.*/private/\|private/\)\?\(qplatform.*\)_qpa\(.*\)>,#include <qpa/\2\3>,g' \ -e 's,.*#.*include.*"\(Qt.*/\|Qt.*/private/\|private/\)\?\(qplatform.*\)_qpa\(.*\)",#include <qpa/\2\3>,g' \ $file done Change-Id: I04a350314a45746e3911f54b3b21ad03315afb67 Reviewed-by: Morten Johan Sørvig <morten.sorvig@nokia.com> Reviewed-by: Samuel Rødal <samuel.rodal@nokia.com> Reviewed-by: Friedemann Kleint <Friedemann.Kleint@nokia.com> Reviewed-by: Sean Harmer <sean.harmer@kdab.com> Reviewed-by: Lars Knoll <lars.knoll@nokia.com> Reviewed-by: Gunnar Sletta <gunnar.sletta@nokia.com>
