Since the ABI issues revolving around the new int128 types are not known, yet, avoid baking the types into the ABI by a) making the operators constrained templates¹ and b) passing though void* to the exported helpers. These functions return an error message if Qt was compiled without support for int128. Use the Thiago Trick™ (leaving obviouly dead code around for the compiler to remove without warning) to expose more code to more compilers. This appears to work elsewhere in Qt, so I hope it does here, too. Even if they're not concentrated in just a few TUs, we need to make progress on a global QT_NO_FOREACH default, so grab the nettle and stick to our strategy: Mark the whole of Qt with QT_NO_FOREACH, to prevent new uses from creeping in, and whitelist the affected TUs by #undef'ing QT_NO_FOREACH locally, at the top of each file. For TUs that are part of a larger executable, this requires these files to be compiled separately, so add them to NO_PCH_SOURCES (which implies NO_UNITY_BUILD_SOURCES, too). In tst_qglobal.cpp and tst_qcollections.cpp change the comment on the #undef QT_NO_FOREACH to indicate that these actually test the macro. The Integrity compiler provides the following warning: "tst_qglobal.cpp", line 699: warning #3435-D: the "nodiscard" attribute doesn't apply to constructors, destructors, or routines with void return type [[nodiscard]] explicit Test(int val) : m_val(val) {} The QNX compiler (QCC 8.3.0) and GCC 9.3.1 on OpenSUSE generate the [-Wattributes] warning: tst_qglobal.cpp: In member function 'void tst_QGlobal::nodiscardConstructor()': tst_qglobal.cpp:699:44: warning: 'nodiscard' attribute applied to 'tst_QGlobal::nodiscardConstructor()::Test::Test(int)' with void return type [-Wattributes] [[nodiscard]] explicit Test(int val) : m_val(val) {} These warnings will lead to build failures when compiled with -warnings-are-errors flag, so for these compilers the macro does not do anything. An attempt to use __attribute__((__warn_unused_result__)) was also unsuccessful on these compilers, so this patch goes for an easy solution, and simply checks __has_cpp_attribute(nodiscard) >= 201907L to decide if the attribute is supported or not. This commit also introduces a syntax-only test, and also applies the new macro to QMutexLocker, because not all platforms in the CI build and run unit tests. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Qt defines some integral datatypes (qsizetype, qintptr, quintptr, qptrdiff) not in terms of the corresponding language datatypes (resp. make_signed_t<size_t>, intptr_t, uintptr_t, ptrdiff_t) but as "integer types with the same bit size of the corresponding language type" (and of course the corret correct signedness for the target type). This makes the Qt datatypes not printable via printf-like formatted output, incl. qDebug, qWarning, QString::asprintf and so on; that's because there isn't a format modifier that would universally work with the Qt definitions. For instance, on a 32 bit platform, ptrdiff_t may be a typedef for long, while qptrdiff is a typedef for _int_ instead. Both long and int would indeed be 32 bits, but they still are different types, and this means that the ptrdiff_t-specific 't' length modifier would be wrong for qptrdiff: qptrdiff p; printf("%td", p); // WARNING: -Wformat: wanted long, got int Similarly, not using 't' breaks on 64 bits, and so on and so forth. There isn't a way out, short of inserting casts on every print statement. So, let's adopt the same solution C/C++ use for their own integer typedefs: the PRIx macros. This allows one to always use the correct formatting specifier without the need of a cast. I'm not adding the macros for the qintXX datatypes, as they already exist in the Standard Library. [ChangeLog][QtCore][QtGlobal] A series of PRIxQTDATATYPE macros have been added. They make it possible to print some Qt type aliases (qsizetype, qintptr, etc.) via a formatted output facility such as printf() or qDebug() without raising formatting warnings and without the need of a type cast.
