| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | syncqt.pl adds an extra dependency on perl when building Qt. Modern C++ provides the convenient cross-platform way to access a filesystem and to use regular expressions, so we may replace the perl script with C++ application. The syncqt executable is built at configure time and installed as QtCore tool. It's running at configure time to deliver the required header files for IDE to build a consistent code model and at the build time to keep tracking changes in header files and generate the missing aliases without reconfiguring. 'syncqt' only parses header files from a CMake build tree, so the resulting Qt installation only contains interfacing headers that belong to the platform that Qt is built for. 'sync.profile' files are not used as the 'source of truth' for sync qt procedure anymore, all the necessary information is taken from either CMake files at configure time or from the module header files while parsing them. syncqt.pl is still in place since it's required as fallback solution for a smooth transition to the new syncqt implementation for all qt repositories. This patchset only enables the C++ based syncqt for 'qtbase' repository. From the performance perspective C++ version works faster then perl script, also the configure time is reduced significally on subsequent reconfigurations - up x2 times faster when re-configuring repository, but it also takes time to compile the tool itself the first time. Numbers for qtbase: syncqt.pl syncqt.cpp initial: 0m16,035s 0m20,413s reconfig: 0m6,819s 0m3,725s The syncing procedure can be run separately for each module using <ModuleName>_sync_headers targets. The 'sync_headers' target can be used to sync all the modules at once. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A window with alpha > 0 is no longer forced to using a legacy, non-flip swapchain. Instead, the Win8+ DirectComposition API is used in that case to get a properly composited semi-transparent window. The remainings of the non-flip model swapchain support, that was left after purging Windows 7 in order to support semi-transparent windows, is now gone completely. Setting QT_D3D_NO_FLIP has no effect from now on. DXGIFactory2 and flip model swapchains are now always required and in use. There is one downside when it comes to the swap effect: for semi-transparent windows we will be stuck with SCALING_STRETCH as SCALING_NONE is not supported on this path. Using NONE over STRETCH was preferable for typical Qt applications because user interfaces typically look "nicer" during resize without stretching when ending up with a size-mismatched Present. For normal (non-translucent) windows this will continue to be the case, but enabling alpha will now move back to SCALING_STRETCH implicitly. In addition, it looks like AlphaMode is ignored when using CreateSwapChainForComposition. Setting DXGI_ALPHA_MODE_STRAIGHT fails always whereas other values lead to an identical looking (with transparency) result. Therefore we just set it to DXGI_ALPHA_MODE_PREMULTIPLIED regaredless of which QRhiSwapChain alpha flag is set. A QPlatformBackingStore now optionally can own a QRhi and a QRhiSwapChain for the associated window. Non-GL rendering must use this QRhi everywhere, whereas GL (QOpenGLWidget) can choose to still rely on resource sharing between contexts. A widget tells that it wants QRhi and the desired configuration in a new virtual function in QWidgetPrivate returning a QPlatformBackingStoreRhiConfig. This is evaluated (among a top-level's all children) upon create() before creating the repaint manager and the QWidgetWindow. In QOpenGLWidget what do request is obvious: it will request an OpenGL-based QRhi. QQuickWidget (or a potential future QRhiWidget) will be more interesting: it needs to honor the standard Qt Quick env.vars. and QQuickWindow APIs (or, in whatever way the user configured the QRhiWidget), and so will set up the config struct accordingly. In addition, the rhiconfig and surface type is (re)evaluated when (re)parenting a widget to a new tlw. If needed, this will now trigger a destroy - create on the tlw. This should be be safe to do in setParent. When multiple child widgets report an enabled rhiconfig, the first one (the first child encountered) wins. So e.g. attempting to have a QOpenGLWidget and a Vulkan-based QQuickWidget in the same top-level window will fail one of the widgets (it likely won't render). RasterGLSurface is no longer used by widgets. Rather, the appropriate surface type is chosen. The rhi support in the backingstore is usable without widgets as well. To make rhiFlush() functional, one needs to call setRhiConfig() after creating the QBackingStore. (like QWidget does to top-level windows) Most of the QT_NO_OPENGL ifdefs are eliminated all over the place. Everything with QRhi is unconditional code at compile time, except the actual initialization. Having to plumb the widget tlw's shareContext (or, now, the QRhi) through QWindowPrivate is no longer needed. The old approach does not scale: to implement composeAndFlush (now rhiFlush) we need more than just a QRhi object, and this way we no longer pollute everything starting from the widget level (QWidget's topextra -> QWidgetWindow -> QWindowPrivate) just to send data around. The BackingStoreOpenGLSupport interface and the QtGui - QtOpenGL split is all gone. Instead, there is a QBackingStoreDefaultCompositor in QtGui which is what the default implementations of composeAndFlush and toTexture call. (overriding composeAndFlush and co. f.ex. in eglfs should continue working mostly as-is, apart from adapting to the texture list changes and getting the native OpenGL texture id out of the QRhiTexture) As QQuickWidget is way too complicated to just port as-is, an rhi manual test (rhiwidget) is introduced as a first step, in ordewr to exercise a simple, custom render-to-texture widget that does something using a (not necessarily OpenGL-backed) QRhi and acts as fully functional QWidget (modeled after QOpenGLWidget). This can also form the foundation of a potential future QRhiWidget. It is also possible to force the QRhi-based flushing always, regardless of the presence of render-to-texture widgets. To exercise this, set the env.var. QT_WIDGETS_RHI=1. This picks a platform-specific default, and can be overridden with QT_WIDGETS_RHI_BACKEND. (in sync with Qt Quick) This can eventually be extended to query the platform plugin as well to check if the platform plugin prefers to always do flushes with a 3D API. QOpenGLWidget should work like before from the user's perspective, while internally it has to do some things differently to play nice and prevent regressions with the new rendering architecture. To exercise this better, the qopenglwidget example gets a new tab-based view (that could perhaps replace the example's main window later on?). The openglwidget manual test is made compatible with Qt 6, and gets a counterpart in form of the dockedopenglwidget manual test, which is a modified version of the cube example that features dock widgets. This is relevant in particular because render-to-texture widgets within a QDockWidget has its own specific quirks, with logic taking this into account, hence testing is essential. For existing applications there are two important consequences with this patch in place: - Once the rhi-based composition is enabled, it stays active for the lifetime of the top-level window. - Dynamically creating and parenting the first render-to-texture widget to an already created tlw will destroy and recreate the tlw (and the underlying window). The visible effects of this depend on the platform. (e.g. the window may disappear and reappear on some, whereas with other windowing systems it is not noticeable at all - this is not really different from similar situtions with reparenting or when moving windows between screens, so should be acceptable in practice) - On iOS raster windows are flushed with Metal (and rhi) from now on (previously this was through OpenGL by making flush() call composeAndFlush(). | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The system we inherited from the original Qt 5.14 introduction of QRhi is a text stream based solution where resource creation and frame timings are sent in a comma-separated format to a QIODevice. This, while useful to get insights about the number of resources at a given time, is not actively helpful. The frameworks built on top (Qt Quick, Qt Quick 3D) are expected to provide solutions for logging timings in a different way (e.g. via the QML Profiler). Similarly, tracking active resources and generating statistics from that is better handled on a higher level. The unique bits, such as the Vulkan memory allocator statistics and the GPU frame timestamps, are converted into APIs in QRhi. This way a user of QRhi can query it at any time and do whatever it sees fit with the data. When it comes to the GPU timestamps, that has a somewhat limited value due to the heavy asynchronousness, hence the callback based API. Nonetheless, this is still useful since it is the only means of reporting some frame timing data (an approx. elapsed milliseconds for a frame) from the GPU side. If a user project uses a Qt built with Vulkan support, but their system is missing Vulkan headers, the project configuration needs to succeed. The project will get compilation errors if it uses Vulkan headers, but that's intended. This use case was broken when fixing Vulkan to be found when building Qt for Android. Fix the regression with a combination of things 1) Mark the WrapVulkanHeaders package as optional (already the case) 2) Use the include directories directly when compiling Gui and OpenGL 3) Propagate WrapVulkanHeaders::WrapVulkanHeaders link requirement to consumers only if the target exists. It won't exist if Vulkan include dirs are not found This also requires some changes in pri and prl file generation. For prl file generation, we don't want to link to the WrapVulkanHeaders target, so we filter out all dependencies that use TARGET_NAME_IF_EXISTS for anything that calls __qt_internal_walk_libs which includes qt_collect_libs. For pri files, we make sure to generate a uses=vulkan/nolink clause by inspecting a new _qt_is_nolink_target property on the target. We also don't add include dirs to the pri file if the new _qt_skip_include_dir_for_pri property is set. This is intended for Vulkan, because there is separate qmake logic to try and find the include dirs when configuring a user project. As a drive-by, fix nolink handling for WrapOpenSSLHeaders. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Xcode allows building a project targeting either the device or simulator sysroot in one single build dir, but for the sysroot switching to work there should be no linker or compiler flags referencing absolute paths of a specific sysroot. During CMake configuration of a project targeting iOS, all found system libraries will be within one single sysroot, either the device one or the simulator one, whichever one was passed to CMAKE_OSX_SYSROOT. CMake will then generate the Xcode project and pass those absolute paths, which makes sysroot switching within Xcode not work. To avoid that, the CMake documentation recommends passing linker and framework flags of the form '-lfoo' and '-framework bar' instead of absolute paths. Xcode then takes care of setting the correct framework search path. Zlib is one of the libraries found in the iOS sysroot and thus passed as absolute path. To avoid that, create a new FindWrapZLIB find script. The target it creates will pass the absolute path to the library on non Apple platforms and an -lz linker flag on Apple platforms (macOS and iOS). To avoid issues with target global promotion when system PNG package is found, ensure that a found ZLIB::ZLIB target is promoted to global manually in src/gui/configure.cmake. For now, Qt can be configured to build universal macOS libraries by passing 2 architectures to CMake, either via: -DCMAKE_OSX_ARCHITECTURES="x86_64;arm64" or -DCMAKE_OSX_ARCHITECTURES="arm64;x86_64" Currently we recommend specifying the intel x86_64 arch as the first one, to get an intel slice configuration that is comparable to a non-universal intel build. Specifying the arm64 slice first could pessimize optimizations and reduce the feature set for the intel slice due to the limitation that we run configure tests only once. The first specified architecture is the one used to do all the configure tests. It 'mostly' defines the common feature set of both architecture slices, with the excepion of some special handling for sse2 and neon instructions. In the future we might want to run at least the Qt architecture config test for all specified architectures, so that we can extract all the supported sub-arches and instruction sets in a reliable way. For now, we use the same sse2 hack as for iOS simulator_and_device builds, otherwise QtGui fails to link due to missing qt_memfill32_sse2 and other symbols. The hack is somewhat augmented to ensure that reconfiguration still succeeds (same issue happened with iOS). Previously the sse2 feature condition was broken due to force setting the feature to be ON. Now the condition also checks for a special QT_FORCE_FEATURE_sse2 variable which we set internally. Note that we shouldn't build for arm64e, because the binaries get killed when running on AS with the following message: kernel: exec_mach_imgact: not running binary built against preview arm64e ABI. Aslo, by default, we disable the arm64 slice for qt sql plugins, mostly because the CI provisioned sql libraries that we depend on only contain x86_64 slices, and trying to build the sql plugins for both slices will fail with linker errors. This behavior can be disabled for all targets marked by qt_internal_force_macos_intel_arch, by setting the QT_FORCE_MACOS_ALL_ARCHES CMake option to ON. To disble it per-target one can set QT_FORCE_MACOS_ALL_ARCHES_${target} to ON. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Functions in QtFlagHandlingHelpers.cmake try to update the CMake cache variables for compiler and linker flags. These were using the current value of those variables and writing the modified ones back to the cache every time CMake ran. If a toolchain file sets or modifies any of these variables, that updated value is used and written back into the cache instead of the original cache variable's value. The next time CMake executes, the toolchain file re-applies the same change and the variable grows longer each time with flags repeated. With Ninja, this causes a complete rebuild every time CMake is re-run. The Android NDK toolchain file is one example where this behavior is triggered (the fault is shared, one could argue that the NDK should only be setting ..._INIT variables, but that's out of our control). Another related bug in the previous implementation was that the flags used to build after the first CMake execution could be different to those used for all builds after the second and later CMake runs. This is because the CMake cache was being updated, but not always the calling scope of the functions that modified them. If a toolchain file set any of the compiler or linker flag variables as non-cache variables, then updating the cache variable would have no effect on the calling scope. The non-cache variable would continue to take precedence for that scope for that run. The next time CMake executes though, the updated cache variable would now have been used by the toolchain file and the change *will* be part of the non-cache variable's value. The above are examples of why you should try to avoid updating these cache variables from project code. We could leave the cache alone and always update only non-cache variables, but then a developer looking at the cache may wonder why the values they see there don't match the values being used in builds. Or worse, they think the cache values are being used and don't realize the builds are using something different. Ultimately, we have to choose which downside we are happy to live with. The changes here preserve the previous intent of updating the cache, but it's still a bit fragile.
